The work known as the 'Bates Method' of natural eyesight improvement developed from the clinic experience and research of Dr. William H. Bates (an American ophthalmologist 1860-1931).
He published his book 'The Cure of Imperfect Eyesight by Treatment without Glasses' in 1920 in which he explained his research, theories and practices.
Dr. Bates found that:-
• Normal sight is inherently variable
• Poor sight can get better as well as worse
• Sight problems and eye disease are intimately related
• Eyesight is an important indicator of mental, emotional and physical health
He also edited "Better Eyesight" Magazines which ran from 1919-1930 which both he and Emily Lierman contributed to.
